Description
Description
Connect your original Sega Mega Drive, Sega Genesis or SNK Neo Geo AES to a modern HDMI television with this compact RGBS HDMI adapter and 1080p upscaler. Designed for original console hardware, it converts the console’s analogue RGB picture and audio into an HDMI signal for a compatible TV, monitor or projector, allowing you to keep enjoying your cartridges on a display without a suitable legacy AV input.
The adapter uses the console’s RGBS video output, carrying separate red, green and blue picture signals alongside synchronisation. It connects directly to the supported console’s AV port rather than using its yellow composite-video connection, and removes the need for a separate RGB SCART cable and SCART-to-HDMI converter in this setup.
It offers wide compatibility with original Sega Mega Drive 1 and 2, Sega Genesis 1 and 2 and SNK Neo Geo AES consoles. The attached 9-pin Mini-DIN lead connects directly to a Mega Drive 2 or Genesis 2, while the two included conversion leads provide the appropriate connections for Mega Drive 1, Genesis 1 and Neo Geo AES. Select MD mode for the Sega consoles or SNK mode for Neo Geo AES using the dedicated switch. French SECAM Mega Drive models MD1600-09 and MD160-01 are excluded.
A built-in upscaler converts the incoming picture into a 1080p HDMI output. This makes the original console signal suitable for a compatible modern display while retaining the game’s original graphics. Upscaling changes the output resolution; it does not add new textures, redraw sprites or turn the original artwork into native Full HD graphics.
The separate aspect-ratio switch lets you choose between 4:3 and 16:9. Select 4:3 to retain the original proportions of most games, keeping characters and scenery from being stretched across the screen. The 16:9 setting is available if you prefer a picture that fills a widescreen display, although it stretches the existing image rather than creating additional widescreen game content.
Console audio travels through the HDMI connection alongside the picture, providing a single connection to your display for both. On an original Mega Drive 1 or Genesis 1, the rear AV port supplies mono audio. The included conversion lead uses that connection and does not have a separate lead for the console’s front headphone socket, so it does not capture the stereo output available there.
Measuring 75 × 45 × 15mm, the compact adapter fits into a console setup without the space requirements of a larger standalone scaler. Its attached console lead is 240mm long, and the supplied HDMI cable provides the onward connection to your display. The physical console-mode and aspect-ratio switches keep the main settings accessible without a computer or configuration software.
The package includes the upscaler, HDMI cable, Micro-USB power cable and both console conversion leads. A separate 5V USB power source rated for at least 1A is required. You can use a suitable USB mains adapter or a television USB port that meets this requirement; a USB mains adapter is not included.
Setup is straightforward: connect the appropriate console lead, select the matching MD or SNK mode, attach HDMI and USB power, then choose your preferred aspect ratio. Plug and play with no console modification required, making it a practical external upgrade for supported original hardware.
Supplied with a 12-month Retrolize warranty and expert support, with fast UK delivery and delivery to supported international destinations. Explore our retro gaming upscalers and HDMI adapters for more options to connect your original consoles to modern displays.

Critical Info
Critical Info
Check Your Console Model: This adapter is intended for the original Mega Drive 1 and 2, Genesis 1 and 2 and Neo Geo AES. Do not assume compatibility with other consoles because they use a similar-looking connector.
French SECAM Exception: Mega Drive models MD1600-09 and MD160-01 are excluded. Check the console’s model label before ordering.
USB Power Required: The adapter needs a separate 5V USB supply rated for at least 1A. The Micro-USB cable is included; a USB mains power adapter is not included. A television’s USB port is suitable only if it supplies the required power.
Mega Drive 1 / Genesis 1 Audio: The original console’s rear AV connection supplies mono audio. The supplied connection lead does not include a separate connection to the front headphone socket, so this setup does not capture that socket’s stereo output.
Aspect Ratio: Select 4:3 for the original proportions of most games. The 16:9 setting stretches the picture; it does not add widescreen support to the game itself.
1080p Output: The adapter scales the original console signal to 1080p. This does not turn the console’s graphics into native Full HD artwork.
Initial Setup
- Switch off the console before connecting the adapter.
- For Mega Drive 2 or Genesis 2, connect the attached lead directly to the console’s AV port. For Mega Drive 1, Genesis 1 or Neo Geo AES, fit the appropriate included conversion lead first.
- Set the console-mode switch to MD for Mega Drive or Genesis, or SNK for Neo Geo AES.
- Connect the included HDMI cable between the adapter and your display.
- Connect the Micro-USB power cable to the adapter and a suitable 5V USB supply rated for at least 1A.
- Select 4:3 or 16:9, then switch on the console and choose the correct HDMI input on your display.
- Check the picture and audio. Enable your display’s Game Mode where available.
