Nintendo Wii HDMI Adapters and Converters

A Wii-to-HDMI adapter provides a straightforward connection to a compatible television, monitor or capture device with an HDMI input. Our BitFunx adapters connect to the Wii AV Multi Out port and convert its YPbPr component video and stereo audio into HDMI, carrying picture and sound through one cable.

The BitFunx Component To HDMI Adapter features an aluminium-alloy housing, an integrated console lead and an included 1.5-metre HDMI cable. Its cabled design lets the converter sit away from the console’s AV socket.

The BitFunx Mini Component To HDMI Adapter connects directly to the console in a compact housing. It performs the same type of component-to-HDMI conversion and requires a standard HDMI cable purchased separately.

Both adapters support compatible PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J RVL-001 and RVL-101 consoles. They take power directly from the Wii, with no external power supply or console modification required. “Mini” describes the smaller adapter, not Wii Mini compatibility: neither adapter supports the Wii Mini’s composite-only video output.

Wii 480p Output, Upscaling and Aspect Ratio

The BitFunx adapters support 480i, 480p and 576i, subject to the console, software and connected display. For supported progressive-scan games, select Wii Options > Wii Settings > Screen > TV Resolution > EDTV Or HDTV (480p).

These adapters convert the Wii’s original signal rather than upscale it to 720p, 1080p or 4K. A higher-resolution television handles further scaling to its panel resolution, while a separate video processor offers additional control over that process.

Some games use interlaced video, and not every monitor, HDMI switch or capture device accepts 480i or 576i. Check the supported input modes across your setup before choosing a direct converter.

Match the Wii’s 4:3 or 16:9 setting to the connected display and the game’s supported presentation. An HDMI connection does not automatically correct stretched images or change the aspect ratio selected on the console.

PAL Nintendo Wii RGB SCART Cables

For a compatible CRT television or RGB video processor, the Premium PAL Nintendo Wii RGB SCART Cable carries separate red, green and blue picture signals alongside stereo audio. RGB can provide cleaner colour separation and sharper edges than the standard composite connection.

The cable uses 24 AWG copper conductors, foil and mesh shielding, and a ferrite core to help protect the signal from interference. Its EuroSCART connection uses CVBS sync, also called sync-on-composite: composite video supplies the synchronisation information while the picture remains RGB.

It is intended for compatible PAL RVL-001 and RVL-101 consoles. Standard NTSC-U and NTSC-J consoles do not provide the required RGB output, and the Wii Mini is not supported.

Wii RGB SCART is a standard-definition connection and does not carry 480p progressive-scan output. Choose a suitable component connection or component-to-HDMI adapter when 480p is your priority. Any SCART converter used with this cable must accept RGB video.

OSSC Video Processing for Nintendo Wii

The BitFunx OSSC V1.8 accepts RGB SCART, YPbPr component and VGA video, providing HDMI output with configurable processing and picture controls.

A compatible PAL Wii can connect through the RGB SCART cable, while a suitable Wii component cable provides the component route, including supported 480p output. The console cable must match the chosen input and is required separately.

The OSSC does not accept composite video or S-Video directly. Its bob deinterlacing for 480i and 576i prioritises responsive processing but can produce visible flicker, so consider the video modes used by your games and the input support of your display.

GBS-Control Pro Upscaling and Deinterlacing

The RetroScaler GBS-Control Pro offers multiple analogue inputs and selectable HDMI output resolutions up to 1080p. It suits setups where you want picture adjustment, saved profiles and one processor for several retro consoles.

Its motion-adaptive deinterlacing is useful for games using 480i or 576i, offering a different approach to interlaced video from the OSSC’s bob processing. Choose the correct Wii cable for the processor’s input and your intended video mode.

RetroScaler2x and Wii Mini HDMI Connections

The RetroScaler2x AV To HDMI Converter and Line Doubler accepts supported composite, S-Video and component signals, with video and stereo audio carried through HDMI.

For Wii use, it can convert 480i to 480p or 576i to 576p. It does not accept 480p input, so a Wii connected through component cables must use a supported interlaced setting. RGB SCART is not supported.

Its composite input provides an HDMI connection route for the Wii Mini RVL-201, using a suitable Wii composite AV cable. This converts the Mini’s existing video output rather than adding native component or 480p capability to the console.

A Micro USB power cable is included. The console AV cable, HDMI cable and suitable regulated 5V USB power supply are required separately.

GC2SD Storage for Compatible Wii Consoles

The GC2SD microSD adapter provides storage access for compatible software through a GameCube memory card port on an original Wii RVL-001. It does not connect to the Wii’s front SD-card slot.

Also known as an SD Gecko-style adapter, it supports suitable GameCube-mode homebrew setups. It is a specialist accessory for compatible software, rather than a general-purpose Wii storage upgrade.

GC2SD does not boot homebrew by itself and is not a conventional GameCube save-memory card. A suitable software launch method and a microSD card are required separately. Wii Family Edition RVL-101 and Wii Mini consoles lack the necessary memory card ports.

GameCube Games Through Your Wii Video Connection

Backwards-compatible RVL-001 consoles can display their GameCube games through the appropriate Wii video connection, allowing one display setup to serve both Wii and GameCube software. Available resolutions depend on the game and setup.

An HDMI adapter, RGB cable or GC2SD does not add GameCube disc compatibility to a Family Edition or Wii Mini console. Use video accessories designed for the Wii’s connection rather than assuming that an adapter for a standalone GameCube will fit.
