Description

Connect original retro gaming consoles, computers and compatible arcade hardware to a modern HDMI television, monitor or capture device with the BitFunx OSSC V1.8 Open Source Scan Converter.

The OSSC is an advanced ultra-low-latency retro gaming upscaler and video line multiplier designed for high-quality analogue signals. It converts RGB SCART, component YPbPr, RGsB and VGA video into a sharp digital HDMI output while adding less than two input scanlines of processing delay.

Unlike conventional video processors that store complete frames before producing an image, the OSSC processes the incoming signal one line at a time. This makes it particularly suitable for fighting games, platform games, rhythm games, shoot ’em ups and other timing-sensitive titles where responsive controls are essential.

Classic 240p and 288p video can be multiplied using Line2x, Line3x, Line4x, Line5x or Line6x. Depending on the source signal, selected settings and connected display, the OSSC can produce sharp progressive output without the heavy smoothing commonly used by basic retro console HDMI converters.

The BitFunx OSSC V1.8 includes RGB SCART, component and VGA inputs, providing broad support across Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Microsoft, SNK, NEC and Atari hardware. It can also be used with compatible home computers, VGA equipment, FPGA systems and correctly attenuated arcade boards.

Compatible consoles can be connected using our Premium On-Sync RGB SCART Cables. A clean, correctly wired RGB cable helps maintain picture stability, colour accuracy and reliable synchronisation while ensuring the correct components and sync attenuation are used for each console.

Component video systems such as the PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii, Original Xbox and compatible Xbox 360 consoles can connect through the three RCA YPbPr inputs. The VGA input supports compatible RGBHV equipment including the Sega Dreamcast, retro computers and original PC hardware.

Systems that only provide RF, composite or S-Video require an RGB modification, compatible video-output accessory or active transcoder before they can be connected to the OSSC. A passive connector adapter will not convert these signals into RGB or component video.

Adjustable scanline controls allow you to recreate the darker horizontal lines associated with CRT displays, while compatible V1.xx firmware also provides configurable shadow mask effects. Sampling, sync processing, colour output, overscan masking and other settings can be adjusted for individual consoles and displays.

The included infrared remote control provides convenient access to the OSSC settings, while the backlit LCD displays the detected input signal and current operating mode. Firmware updates and compatible profiles can be managed through the built-in microSD card slot.

With extensive input support, ultra-low latency and detailed control over line multiplication and image presentation, the BitFunx OSSC V1.8 provides a versatile HDMI solution for retro gaming enthusiasts who want sharper results and greater control than a basic plug-and-play converter.

Important: Raw JAMMA RGB and sync must not be connected directly to the OSSC SCART input. Use a suitable Supergun or properly attenuated interface.

Critical Info

Composite & S-Video Are Not Supported Directly: The OSSC accepts RGBS, RGsB, component YPbPr and VGA-style video signals. Standard composite and S-Video cables cannot be connected directly.

A Composite-To-SCART Adapter Will Not Work: Basic RCA-to-SCART adapters only change the physical connection. They do not convert composite video into the RGB signal required by the OSSC.

EuroSCART Connection: The OSSC uses the European SCART wiring standard. Japanese RGB21 cables use the same physical connector but have a different pinout and must not be connected directly.

Use A Correctly Wired RGB Cable: Cable components, console region and sync wiring can affect picture stability, colour accuracy and compatibility. Browse our Premium On-Sync RGB SCART Cables for compatible console connections.

Console Video Cables Are Not Included: Each system requires an appropriate RGB SCART, component or VGA cable. The required connection varies between consoles, revisions and regions.

Sync Levels Matter: The OSSC SCART input is designed for consumer video-level sync. Cables using a console’s TTL-level CSync output must include suitable attenuation.

Do Not Connect Arcade Boards Directly: Raw arcade-board RGB and sync levels can exceed normal consumer video levels. Use a correctly configured Supergun or properly attenuated interface between the arcade hardware and OSSC.

Display Compatibility Varies: Higher line-multiplication modes use output timings that may not be accepted by every television, monitor, HDMI switch, AV receiver or capture device.

Line2x Offers The Widest Compatibility: When Line3x, Line4x, Line5x or Line6x is not accepted by your display, select Line2x or passthrough mode.

480i & 576i Use Bob Deinterlacing: Bob deinterlacing keeps processing latency extremely low but can produce visible vertical movement around static text, menus and fine horizontal details.

Resolution Changes Can Interrupt The Picture: Games that switch between 240p gameplay and 480i menus may cause a brief blank screen while the OSSC and connected display resynchronise.

1440p Requires A Compatible Display: Line6x and 1440-line output modes require a television or monitor capable of accepting the resulting resolution, refresh rate and video timings.

HDR Is A Display Flag: The optional HDR setting instructs a compatible television or monitor to enter an HDR presentation mode. It does not convert the original game into genuine HDR content.

Use Compatible Firmware Only: Hardware revision V1.8 must only be updated using compatible V1.xx firmware. Installing firmware designed for earlier OSSC hardware can cause incorrect operation.

External Power Is Required: The OSSC requires a regulated 5V DC power supply. A 5V 2A adapter with UK, EU, US and AU plug heads is included.

Use The Correct Power Supply: Any replacement supply must provide 5V DC through a 2.1 × 5.5mm centre-positive connector. Incorrect voltage or polarity may permanently damage the unit.

HDMI Cable Not Included: A standard HDMI cable is required to connect the OSSC to your television, monitor, AV receiver or capture equipment.

Connect Equipment With The Power Off: Switch off the OSSC and connected equipment before inserting or removing analogue video cables.

Warranty Information

This BitFunx OSSC V1.8 is covered by a 12-month limited Retrolize warranty against manufacturing defects and hardware faults arising during normal use.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage, damaged connectors, incorrect power supplies, reversed polarity, unauthorised hardware modification, interrupted firmware updates or damage caused by unsuitable cables or incompatible equipment.

Display incompatibility with particular line-multiplication modes, non-standard output timings, resolution switching, bob-deinterlacing behaviour, unsupported analogue video formats or incorrectly wired third-party cables is not considered a hardware fault.

Firmware must only be updated using files designed for OSSC hardware revision V1.8 and the V1.xx firmware platform. Damage or malfunction caused by installing incompatible firmware is not covered.
