The Nintendo 64 USB-C Power Supply replaces the original N64 power brick with a compact external adapter powered by a compatible USB-C Power Delivery charger. It provides a modern USB Type-C power connection for original Nintendo 64 hardware without permanently altering the console.

The adapter fits directly into Nintendo’s proprietary rear power connection and supplies the separate 3.3V and 12V DC rails required by the console. It replaces the complete original NUS-002-style external power supply, with no need to reuse its mains circuitry, install an internal board or modify the Nintendo 64 motherboard.

Power is supplied through a USB-C PD charger supporting a 12V / 3A output profile. The adapter uses the PD3.0 protocol to request the required input from a compatible charger. At least 36W must be available at the 12V profile; this is a charger capability requirement, rather than a statement that the Nintendo 64 continuously consumes 36W.

Choosing a charger depends on its listed output profiles, rather than its headline wattage. Higher-wattage USB-C PD chargers can be used where they provide 12V / 3A, but a USB-C connector or a 65W rating alone does not guarantee compatibility. A suitable USB-C to USB-C cable is also required. The charger and cable are supplied separately.

The compact black ABS housing reduces the bulk of the power connection behind the console. Once installed, a USB-C cable runs from the adapter to the external charger, making it convenient for retro gaming setups already using compatible USB-C PD equipment.

PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J Nintendo 64 consoles are supported. The external charger must be suitable for the local mains supply and provide the required USB-C PD profile. For UK owners of imported Japanese or North American consoles, this allows the original 100–120V mains power brick and its separate step-down transformer to be replaced.

Using the adapter does not change the console’s region, video output or software compatibility. Installation is completely external and plug and play, with no soldering or console disassembly required.

Higher charger wattage does not cause the Nintendo 64 to draw additional power. Compatibility depends on the charger providing the required USB Power Delivery profile.

12V / 3A USB-C PD Required: Use a USB-C Power Delivery charger explicitly supporting a 12V output at 3A. This provides 36W of available power at the required profile and describes the adapter’s input requirement.

Charger Wattage Alone Is Not Enough: A 45W, 65W or 100W charger is compatible only when its USB-C output profiles include 12V / 3A. Check the specifications for the individual port you intend to use.

USB-C To USB-C Cable Required: Use a cable rated for at least 3A Power Delivery. A suitable 60W USB-C to USB-C cable meets this requirement. USB-A chargers, USB-A to USB-C cables and basic 5V USB-C supplies are not supported.

First-Time Setup

Switch off the Nintendo 64 and disconnect the existing power supply from the mains before removing it.

Fit the USB-C PSU adapter into the console’s rear power connection without forcing the connector. Connect a suitable USB-C to USB-C cable to the adapter and a compatible 12V / 3A USB-C PD charger.

Connect the charger to a suitable mains supply, then switch on the console.

Which USB-C Charger Do I Need?

Choose a USB-C Power Delivery charger whose listed USB-C output profiles explicitly include 12V / 3A. Check the specification for the individual port being used, particularly on chargers with multiple outputs. A charger offering 12V at a lower current does not meet the stated requirement.

Can I Use A 65W Or 100W USB-C Charger?

Yes, provided it supports the required 12V / 3A USB-C PD profile. A higher maximum wattage does not force the Nintendo 64 to consume that amount of power. Compatibility depends on the available voltage and current profile.

Will A Phone Charger Or USB-A Cable Work?

A phone charger is suitable only if its USB-C PD specifications include 12V / 3A. Basic 5V supplies and USB-A to USB-C cables cannot provide the required USB-C PD connection. Use a suitable USB-C to USB-C cable rated for at least 3A.

Can I Use A Multi-Port USB-C Charger?
