Built around the ESP32-based BlueRetro platform, the adapter translates compatible Bluetooth controller inputs into PlayStation controller commands. Its compact Mini design connects directly to the console, with power normally supplied through the controller port.

It offers wide compatibility with official Sony DualShock 3, DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers, Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers, the Xbox Adaptive Controller, Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers, Joy-Con, Wii controllers and selected 8BitDo and Retro-Bit Bluetooth gamepads. Support depends on the exact controller, firmware and operating mode. Official DualShock 3 and Sixaxis controllers require additional first-time pairing setup.

The standard GamePad configuration emulates a DualShock 2 controller, providing digital controls, analogue sticks and rumble where supported by the connected controller, game and selected settings. This lets you use a suitable modern controller across PS1 and PS2 software while retaining configurable controls.

Pressure-sensitive PS2 inputs require particular attention. Many modern controllers use digital face buttons, which report only whether a button is pressed. They cannot supply the variable pressure data of an original DualShock 2. Suitable controller hardware, firmware and mapping are required for games that use pressure-sensitive actions.

BlueRetro Web Config provides browser-based control over button assignments, analogue settings, output modes and rumble. Remap controls to suit the game or controller layout, and enable the Rumble accessory when compatible vibration is required. Configuration uses a Bluetooth-enabled computer or Android device with a browser supporting Web Bluetooth.

For compatible software, the adapter also offers PSX Mouse, Lightspan Keyboard and SCPH-1110 Flightstick emulation modes. These require appropriate input hardware and configuration, and the game must support the original peripheral.

Each Mini adapter supports one wireless controller. For two-player games, use a separate adapter in each of the console’s two controller ports. The receiver leaves the separate memory-card slots available, so game saves continue to use your existing compatible memory cards.

The USB-C connection provides auxiliary 5V power when required and a service connection for compatible firmware procedures. It does not provide USB-controller or proprietary receiver support. Firmware must match this exact RetroScaler Mini model and hardware revision.

Compatible Controller Required: A supported Bluetooth controller is required and is not included. Compatibility can vary between controller models, hardware revisions, firmware versions and operating modes.

Xbox Compatibility: Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Adaptive Controllers are supported. Xbox 360 controllers and original Xbox One controllers without Bluetooth are not supported.

PlayStation 3 Pairing: Official Sony DualShock 3 and Sixaxis controllers require additional first-time setup. The adapter’s Bluetooth address must be assigned to the controller using the documented pairing procedure and a compatible computer. They do not use the standard wireless pairing process.

Pressure-Sensitive Controls: Do not assume that every modern controller can reproduce the pressure-sensitive face buttons of an original DualShock 2. Support depends on the paired controller, installed firmware, mapping and game. Controllers with digital face buttons cannot provide variable pressure data from those buttons.

Rumble Configuration: Rumble requires a compatible controller and game. Select GamePad output with the Rumble accessory in BlueRetro Web Config if vibration needs enabling.

PS2 MultiTap Support: PlayStation 2 MultiTap emulation is not supported. This listing does not promise multi-controller operation through one Mini adapter.

Memory Cards: The adapter connects to a controller port and does not occupy the separate memory-card slot. It does not replace a PlayStation memory card or provide game-save storage.

Power And USB-C: The adapter normally receives power from the console’s controller port. Its USB-C connection can provide auxiliary 5V power when required and a service connection for compatible firmware procedures. It is not a socket for a wired controller or proprietary USB receiver.

Hot Plugging: Always switch the console off before inserting or removing the adapter.

Firmware Compatibility: Only install firmware explicitly confirmed as compatible with this exact RetroScaler BlueRetro Mini adapter. Incorrect firmware can prevent normal operation or render the adapter unusable. Do not assume that firmware for another RetroScaler model, a universal BlueRetro adapter or an internal installation is suitable.

First-Time Pairing

1. Switch the PlayStation console off.
2. Insert the BlueRetro Mini into the required controller port.
3. Switch the console on. The adapter should enter pairing mode. If pairing does not begin, use the adapter’s pairing control as described in the supplied instruction booklet.
4. Place the supported Bluetooth controller into its pairing mode, using the correct operating mode for that model.
5. Wait for pairing to complete.
6. Test the buttons, analogue sticks and compatible rumble before starting a game.
7. Once pairing information has been stored, the controller can normally reconnect by being switched on again.
8. Always switch the console off before removing or changing the adapter.

Controller-Specific Pairing Information

DualShock 4: With the controller switched off, hold Share + PS until the controller’s light flashes.
DualSense: With the controller switched off, hold Create + PS until the controller’s light flashes.
Xbox Controllers: Switch the supported controller on and use its pairing button. It must be a Bluetooth-enabled model.
Nintendo Switch Controllers: Use the controller’s physical SYNC button to start pairing.
8BitDo Controllers: Select the Bluetooth operating mode documented for the exact model. Many supported models use XInput mode, selected through their mode switch or Start + X; this is not universal across the range.
Retro-Bit Bluetooth Controllers: Use the compatible mode documented for the exact model. Some supported models use XInput mode selected with Home + X.
DualShock 3 & Sixaxis: Follow the additional setup procedure in the BlueRetro controller pairing guide. These controllers cannot be paired simply by following the DualShock 4 or DualSense instructions.

Using BlueRetro Web Config

1. Power the adapter through the console or a suitable 5V USB source.
2. Ensure that no Bluetooth controller is currently connected to the adapter.
3. Open BlueRetro Web Config using a compatible Chrome-based browser on a Bluetooth-enabled computer or Android device with Web Bluetooth support.
4. Connect to the adapter through the browser.
5. Configure button assignments, analogue settings and output modes as required.
6. Select GamePad output with the Rumble accessory if compatible vibration is required.
7. Save the changes, disconnect the browser session and reconnect the controller.
8. Test the controls before playing.
9. Only install firmware explicitly confirmed as compatible with this exact RetroScaler BlueRetro Mini.

Pressure-Sensitive PS2 Controls

An original DualShock 2 can report how firmly certain buttons are pressed. Many newer controllers report only a pressed or released state for their face buttons.

BlueRetro can only use pressure information that the connected controller supplies and that the installed firmware and mapping support. A compatible official DualShock 3 can provide suitable pressure data, but this must not be assumed for every controller or firmware build.

Analogue triggers on a modern controller are separate from pressure-sensitive face buttons. Having analogue triggers does not give its face buttons variable pressure sensitivity.

Optional Peripheral Modes

PSX Mouse: Requires compatible Bluetooth input hardware, Mouse output, the Default Mouse preset and software that supports the original PlayStation mouse.
Lightspan Keyboard: Requires compatible Bluetooth keyboard hardware, Keyboard output and software supporting the Lightspan keyboard.
SCPH-1110 Flightstick: Requires GamePadAlt output, appropriate input mapping and software supporting the emulated flightstick.

These are alternative peripheral modes. They do not add general mouse, keyboard or flightstick support to every PlayStation game.

USB-C Service And Firmware Updating

Use the service procedure documented for the exact Mini adapter and its hardware revision. A USB firmware procedure requires a suitable data cable, the appropriate flashing tool and a firmware file confirmed compatible with this model.

Do not substitute a firmware file intended for another adapter simply because it also runs BlueRetro. Contact Retrolize if you need confirmation of the correct procedure or build.

Connection & Control Troubleshooting

Controller Will Not Pair: Check that it supports Bluetooth, is using the correct operating mode and is actively pairing. Disconnect it from another device if necessary.

DualShock 3 Will Not Connect: Complete its additional first-time Bluetooth-address setup. Standard DualShock 4 or DualSense pairing instructions do not apply.

Web Config Cannot Find The Adapter: Disconnect the controller first. Check that Bluetooth is enabled and that the browser supports Web Bluetooth.

Rumble Does Not Work: Check controller and game support, then select GamePad output with the Rumble accessory and save the setting.

Pressure-Sensitive Actions Behave Like On/Off Buttons: Check whether the controller supplies pressure data for the mapped input. Digital face buttons cannot reproduce a gradual pressure reading.

Analogue Stick Does Not Centre Correctly: Leave sticks and triggers untouched while connecting. With supported Xbox and XInput devices, press a face button a few times after connection while the sticks and triggers remain neutral.

This RetroScaler BlueRetro Mini PS1 & PS2 Bluetooth Controller Adapter is covered by a 12-month Retrolize warranty against manufacturing defects and hardware faults arising during normal use from the date of delivery.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage, forced insertion, hot plugging, unauthorised modification, incorrect external power, incorrectly performed or interrupted firmware updates, or firmware not explicitly confirmed as compatible with this exact adapter. An adapter rendered unresponsive or unusable by an incompatible firmware update is not covered by the Retrolize warranty.

Compatibility differences caused by unsupported controllers, proprietary 2.4GHz receivers, third-party controller firmware, individual games or unsupported operating modes are not considered product faults.

Can I Use A PS5 DualSense Controller On A PS1 Or PS2?

Yes. Official Sony DualSense controllers can connect through the adapter. PS5-specific functions such as adaptive triggers, controller audio and advanced haptic feedback are not reproduced by PS1 or PS2 games.

Can I Use A PS4 DualShock 4 Controller?

Yes. Pair it using Share + PS, then configure the controls and rumble as required.

Can I Use A PS3 DualShock 3 Controller?

Yes, but official DualShock 3 and Sixaxis controllers require additional first-time setup. They do not pair through the same standard procedure used by DualShock 4 or DualSense controllers. Third-party PS3-style controllers are not guaranteed to work.

Can I Use An Xbox Controller On A PS1 Or PS2?

Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Adaptive Controllers are supported. Xbox 360 controllers, original Xbox One controllers without Bluetooth and controllers relying exclusively on a proprietary 2.4GHz receiver cannot connect through Bluetooth.
