BlueRetro Mini PS1 & PS2 Bluetooth Controller Adapter

The RetroScaler BlueRetro Mini PS1 and PS2 Bluetooth Controller Adapter connects supported modern wireless controllers to original Sony PlayStation, PS one and PlayStation 2 consoles. It plugs directly into a PlayStation controller port, providing wireless control without permanently modifying the console.

Built around the ESP32-based BlueRetro platform, the adapter translates compatible Bluetooth controller inputs into PlayStation controller commands. Supported options include official Sony DualShock 3, DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers, Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers, the Xbox Adaptive Controller, Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers, Joy-Con, Wii controllers and selected 8BitDo and Retro-Bit Bluetooth gamepads.

The standard gamepad configuration emulates a DualShock 2 controller, providing digital controls, analogue sticks and rumble where supported by the controller, game and selected settings. Pressure-sensitive PS2 inputs depend on the capabilities of the paired controller and should not be assumed when using controllers with digital face buttons.

Button assignments, output modes and rumble settings can be adjusted through BlueRetro Web Config. The adapter is normally powered through the console’s controller port, while its USB-C connection can provide auxiliary 5V power when required and a service connection for compatible firmware.

Compatible Controller Required: A supported Bluetooth controller is required and is not included.

One Adapter Per Controller: This BlueRetro Mini is supplied and supported as a one-player adapter. A separate adapter is required for each wireless controller.

Pressure-Sensitive Controls: Do not assume that every modern controller can reproduce the pressure-sensitive face buttons of an original DualShock 2. Support depends on the paired controller, installed firmware, mapping and game.

PS2 MultiTap Support: PlayStation 2 MultiTap emulation is not supported.

Hot Plugging: Always switch the console off before inserting or removing the adapter.

Firmware Compatibility: Only install firmware explicitly confirmed as compatible with this exact RetroScaler BlueRetro Mini adapter. Incorrect firmware can prevent normal operation or render the adapter unusable.

First-Time Pairing

1. Switch the PlayStation console off.
2. Insert the BlueRetro Mini into the required controller port.
3. Switch the console on. The red SYNC indicator should pulse while the adapter searches for a controller.
4. Place the supported Bluetooth controller into its pairing mode.
5. Wait for pairing to complete. The adapter’s blue indicator should remain illuminated once connected.
6. Test the controls, analogue sticks and rumble before starting a game.
7. Once pairing information has been stored, the controller can normally reconnect by being switched on again.
8. Always switch the console off before removing or changing the adapter.

Adapter Button Functions

Brief Press While Connected: Disconnects the connected Bluetooth controller.

Brief Press During Pairing: Cancels pairing mode.

Hold For Approximately 3–6 Seconds: Starts pairing mode for a new controller.

Hold For Approximately 10 Seconds: Restores the default configuration and clears stored Bluetooth pairing information.

LED Indicator

Pulsing Red Indicator: Bluetooth pairing mode is active.

Constant Red Indicator: Bluetooth error.

Constant Blue Indicator: A controller is connected successfully.

Controller-Specific Pairing Information

DualShock 4: Hold the Share and PS buttons until the controller’s light flashes.

DualSense: Hold the Create and PS buttons until the controller’s light flashes.

Xbox Controllers: Update the controller through the Xbox Accessories app where applicable, then use its Bluetooth pairing button. Original Xbox One controllers without Bluetooth are not supported.

Nintendo Switch Controllers: Use the controller’s physical SYNC button.

8BitDo Controllers: Use XInput mode, normally selected with Start + X or the controller’s X-mode switch. Compatibility varies by model.

Retro-Bit Bluetooth Controllers: Use XInput mode, normally selected with Home + X. Compatibility varies by model.

DualShock 3 & Sixaxis: Only official Sony controllers are supported by the supplied pairing method. Initial setup requires the adapter’s Bluetooth address to be assigned to the controller using a compatible Windows pairing utility. These controllers do not use the standard wireless pairing process.

Using BlueRetro Web Config

1. Power the adapter through the console or a suitable 5V USB source.
2. Ensure that no controller is connected to the adapter.
3. Open the official BlueRetro Web Config using Chrome or another compatible Chromium-based browser on a desktop or Android device.
4. Connect to the adapter through Web Bluetooth.
5. Configure button mappings, output modes, rumble and other available settings as required.
6. Only install firmware explicitly confirmed as compatible with this exact RetroScaler adapter.

This RetroScaler BlueRetro Mini PS1 & PS2 Bluetooth Controller Adapter is covered by a 12-month Retrolize warranty against manufacturing defects and hardware faults arising during normal use from the date of delivery.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage, forced insertion, hot plugging, unauthorised modification, incorrect external power, incorrectly performed or interrupted firmware updates, or firmware not explicitly confirmed as compatible with this exact adapter. An adapter rendered unresponsive or unusable by an incompatible firmware update is not covered by the Retrolize warranty.

Compatibility differences caused by unsupported controllers, proprietary 2.4GHz receivers, third-party controller firmware, individual games or unsupported operating modes are not considered product faults.

Warranty claims remain subject to the full Retrolize warranty terms and are additional to the customer’s statutory rights.

Can I Use A PS5 DualSense Controller On A PS1 Or PS2?

Yes. Official Sony DualSense controllers can connect through the adapter, although PlayStation 5-specific functions such as adaptive triggers, controller audio and advanced haptic feedback are not reproduced by PS1 or PS2 games.

Can I Use A PS3 DualShock 3 Controller?

Yes, but official DualShock 3 and Sixaxis controllers require an additional first-time setup process. They do not pair through the same standard procedure used by DualShock 4 or DualSense controllers. Third-party PS3-style controllers are not guaranteed to work.

Can I Use An Xbox Controller On A PS1 Or PS2?

Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Adaptive Controllers are supported. Original Xbox One controllers without Bluetooth and controllers relying exclusively on a proprietary 2.4GHz USB receiver are not supported through Bluetooth.

Do Pressure-Sensitive PS2 Buttons Work?

Only when the paired controller provides suitable pressure data and the firmware, mapping and game support it. Most newer controllers use digital face buttons and cannot reproduce all pressure-sensitive DualShock 2 functions.

Will My PlayStation Memory Card Still Work?

Yes. The adapter connects to a controller port and does not occupy the console’s separate memory-card slot.

Can I Connect Two Controllers To One Adapter?

No. This BlueRetro Mini is supplied and supported for one Bluetooth controller. Use a separate adapter in the second controller port for a second wireless player.

Does It Work With A PlayStation 3 Console?

No. The adapter is designed for original PlayStation 1, PS one and PlayStation 2 controller ports. A PlayStation 3 controller is a supported input device, but the PlayStation 3 console itself is not a supported target system.

Can I Use A Controller’s 2.4GHz USB Receiver?

No. The controller must provide a directly compatible Bluetooth mode. A proprietary USB receiver cannot be connected to the PlayStation controller port through this adapter.

What Is The USB-C Connection For?

The adapter normally receives power from the console. USB-C can provide auxiliary 5V power if an ageing controller port cannot power it reliably and can provide a service connection for compatible firmware procedures.
