Description
Description
This RetroScaler BlueRetro Sega Mega Drive and Genesis Bluetooth Controller Adapter connects selected modern Bluetooth controllers to original Sega Mega Drive Model 1, Mega Drive Model 2, Genesis Model 1 and Genesis Model 2 consoles.
The compact wireless receiver connects to an original 9-pin controller port, providing wireless control without permanently modifying the console or requiring a separate power supply. A 9-pin extension cable is included for convenient positioning and easier access to the adapter.
Compatible controller options include official Sony DualShock 3, DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers, Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers, Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers and Joy-Con, Wii Remotes, Wii U Pro Controllers and selected 8BitDo, Retro-Bit and Bluetooth HID controllers.
The adapter defaults to standard 3-button controller output with D-pad, A, B, C and Start controls. Six-button output adds X, Y, Z and Mode for compatible games, with the mapped Home function used to toggle between the two output modes.
Button assignments and output settings can be adjusted through BlueRetro Web Config using a compatible Chrome-based browser. BlueRetro also provides an optional Genesis Mouse output mode for compatible software and input devices.
The original Mega Drive and Genesis controller interface does not provide standard rumble support. Controllers that rely exclusively on a proprietary 2.4GHz USB receiver cannot connect through Bluetooth.
Finished in Black, the adapter is dispatched from UK stock with fast delivery, international tracked delivery to supported destinations and a 12-month Retrolize warranty.

Critical Info
Critical Info
Compatible Controller Required: A supported Bluetooth controller is required and is not included.
One Adapter Per Controller: A separate adapter is required for each wireless controller.
Default 3-Button Mode: The adapter normally starts in standard 3-button controller mode.
Switching Controller Modes: With the default BlueRetro mapping, the mapped Home function toggles between standard 3-button and 6-button controller output.
Game Compatibility: Use 3-button mode for games designed around the original standard controller or if a game behaves incorrectly in 6-button mode. Use 6-button mode for compatible games requiring X, Y, Z and Mode inputs.
Controller Mapping: Physical button positions and labels vary between Bluetooth controllers. Controls can be remapped through BlueRetro Web Config if the default layout is unsuitable.
Rumble: The original Mega Drive and Genesis controller interface does not provide standard controller rumble support.
Hot Plugging: Always switch the console off before inserting, removing or changing the adapter.
Other 9-Pin Consoles: A matching connector does not guarantee compatibility. This adapter is configured for original Sega Mega Drive and Genesis hardware and should not be used with a Master System, SG-1000, Atari console or another 9-pin system.
Firmware Compatibility: Only install firmware explicitly confirmed as compatible with this exact RetroScaler Mega Drive and Genesis adapter.
First-Time Pairing
- Switch the Sega Mega Drive or Genesis console off.
- Connect the BlueRetro adapter to the required controller port, using the supplied extension cable if needed.
- Switch the console on. The adapter should enter pairing mode automatically; if required, use its pairing button as described in the supplied instruction booklet.
- Place the supported Bluetooth controller into its pairing mode.
- Wait for the controller and adapter to connect.
- Test the directional controls and face buttons before starting a game.
- Once pairing information has been stored, the controller can normally reconnect by being switched on again.
- Always switch the console off before removing or changing the adapter.
Using 3-Button & 6-Button Modes
The adapter defaults to standard 3-button controller output, providing the D-pad, A, B, C and Start controls.
With the default BlueRetro mapping, pressing the mapped Home function toggles the adapter between 3-button and 6-button output.
Six-button mode adds X, Y, Z and Mode controls for compatible games.
If an older game displays unusual controls or does not respond correctly, return the adapter to 3-button mode and restart the game if required.
The exact button assigned to the Home function can depend on the connected controller and its operating mode.
Adapter Button Functions
Brief Press While Connected: Disconnects the paired Bluetooth controller.
Brief Press During Pairing: Cancels pairing mode.
Hold For Approximately 3 Seconds: Starts pairing mode for a new controller.
Configuration Reset: Follow the supplied instruction booklet when restoring the adapter’s configuration or clearing stored Bluetooth pairing information.

The adapter can be updated through the official BlueRetro OTA Firmware Updater while powered and with no controller connected.

Additional Information
Additional Information
Can I Use A PS5 DualSense Controller On A Mega Drive Or Genesis?
Yes. An official Sony DualSense controller can be paired with the adapter and used for supported Mega Drive and Genesis controls.
Can I Use An Xbox Controller?
Yes. Xbox Series X|S controllers and Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One controllers are supported. Original Xbox One controllers without Bluetooth are not supported.
Can I Use An 8BitDo Controller?
Selected 8BitDo Bluetooth controllers are supported. Compatibility can depend on the controller model, firmware and selected operating mode.
Does The Adapter Support Six-Button Games?
Yes. The mapped Home function toggles between the default 3-button output and 6-button output. Six-button mode provides the additional X, Y, Z and Mode controls required by compatible games.
Why Would I Use 3-Button Mode?
Some games were designed around the original standard 3-button controller and may not respond correctly when a 6-button controller is detected. Return to 3-button mode if a game displays unusual controls or input behaviour.
Does The Adapter Support Controller Rumble?
No. Standard Sega Mega Drive and Genesis controller ports do not provide a conventional rumble-feedback system.
Can It Emulate A Sega Genesis Mouse?
BlueRetro supports a Genesis Mouse output mode through Web Config. Compatibility depends on the connected Bluetooth input device, its mapping, the installed firmware and support within the individual game or software.
Can I Connect Two Wireless Controllers?
Yes, but each wireless controller requires its own adapter. Connect one adapter to each controller port for compatible two-player games.
Can I Use A Controller’s 2.4GHz USB Receiver?
No. Controllers that operate only through a proprietary 2.4GHz USB receiver cannot connect through Bluetooth.
Does It Work With A Sega Mega Drive Mini Or Genesis Mini?
No. Mega Drive Mini and Genesis Mini consoles use USB controller connections and are not compatible with this original 9-pin controller-port adapter.
Does It Work With A Master System, SG-1000 Or Atari Console?
No. Although several consoles use physically similar 9-pin connectors, their controller interfaces and electrical configurations can differ. Use the BlueRetro adapter produced specifically for the required console.
Is International Delivery Available?
Yes. International tracked delivery is available to supported destinations, with delivery options calculated at checkout.
