The Game Boy Color USB-C Charging Kit adds modern USB-C charging and Li-ion battery support to the Nintendo Game Boy Color, replacing standard AA batteries with a rechargeable power setup.

This kit does not support charge-and-play. Do not use the console while charging.

Designed for Li-ion battery use with a voltage range of 2.75V to 4.2V. If replacing the original power supply, the replacement must support this voltage range. Using an incompatible power setup may damage the console.

This is a USB-C charging and Li-ion battery mod for the Game Boy Color. It is not a 5V power converter, -19V converter or audio amplifier kit.

Description

Upgrade your Nintendo Game Boy Color with a USB-C charging kit designed for modern rechargeable handheld gaming. This Game Boy Color USB-C Charging Mod allows the console to use a Li-ion battery instead of standard AA batteries, giving original Nintendo GBC hardware a cleaner, more practical power solution.

Built specifically for Game Boy Color restorations, IPS screen builds and custom handheld upgrades, the kit adds USB-C charging, Li-ion battery support, overvoltage protection and undervoltage protection. Integrated LEDs on the main board show charging status with a red light and full battery status with a green light, while the optional external LED board can display play, charging and full battery indicators in the original status LED position.

The kit includes two boards: the main charging board and a light board. For a simpler install, the main board can be used on its own without additional cables. For a more complete original-style setup, the light board can be installed and connected with the included cable to move the status LEDs to the console’s original LED area.

Designed to work with the Game Boy Color’s original voltage regulator, this compact GBC power mod is compatible with CGB-CPU-01, CGB-CPU-02, CGB-CPU-03, CGB-CPU-04, CGB-CPU-05 and CGB-CPU-06 boards. It is also suitable for many IPS screen builds and can be used alongside compatible upgrades such as CleanPower Regulator, CleanAmp v1.1 Audio Amplifier and Pololu 5V Step-Up Voltage Regulator U1V10F5.

This is a strong upgrade for modders, repair shops and retro handheld builders who want USB-C charging and rechargeable Li-ion battery support in a restored or modified Game Boy Color.
