The Giltesa Game Boy DMG-01 USB-C Charging Mod PRO is an all-in-one rechargeable battery, power and audio upgrade for the original Nintendo Game Boy.

Rather than installing separate charging, voltage-regulation and audio boards, the kit combines a USB-C Li-ion charging controller, regulated 5V DC power converter and speaker audio amplifier within one purpose-designed system.

The regulated 5V output is designed for modified Game Boy DMG builds using compatible IPS displays and power-hungry accessories such as flash cartridges. It does not produce the -19V rail required by the original DMG display, so it must not be used with the original screen or another display requiring that voltage.

USB-C to USB-C cables, conventional USB charging cables, compatible chargers and USB power banks can be used. Fast chargers are also accepted, although charging takes place at the kit’s normal supported speed.

When installed correctly with a suitable Li-ion battery, the board supports safe charge-and-play operation. Integrated LEDs indicate charging in red and a full battery in green. These onboard indicators can be disabled through the SJ1 jumper when the supplied optional external LED board is installed.

The external indicator board provides a white power indicator, red charging indicator and green fully charged indicator. Its installation is optional.

An integrated audio amplifier drives the speaker using both Game Boy audio channels. Giltesa recommends installing a new 8Ω 1W speaker to help avoid unwanted audio noise.

The kit includes the main circuit board, USB-C board, external light board, connecting cables, USB-C board holder, header pins and light diffuser. A Li-ion battery, replacement speaker, tools and installation supplies are not included.

Professional installation is strongly recommended for customers without suitable soldering, electronics and shell-modification experience.

Installation Preparation

1. Read the Installation Instructions linked above before disassembling or modifying the console.
2. Confirm that the Game Boy uses a compatible 5V IPS display rather than the original DMG display.
3. Obtain a suitable Li-ion battery and check its connector polarity before installation.
4. Disconnect every battery and external power source before beginning work.
5. Disassemble the Game Boy using suitable Tri-Wing and Phillips screwdrivers.
6. Trim the shell for the USB-C port and battery as shown in the official instructions.
7. Install and wire the main board, USB-C board and optional external LED board precisely as documented.
8. Check every solder joint, wire, connector and battery connection for correct polarity, insulation and possible short circuits.
9. Test the charging, power, audio and LED functions before fully reassembling the console.
10. Do not apply power if any connection, battery specification or installation step is uncertain.

This Giltesa Game Boy DMG-01 USB-C Charging Mod PRO is covered by a 12-month limited Retrolize warranty against manufacturing defects and hardware faults affecting the components supplied with the kit during normal use.

The warranty applies only to the components supplied as part of this product. It does not cover the customer’s Game Boy motherboard, display, shell, battery, speaker, flash cartridge, charging cable, charger, tools or other third-party components.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage, damaged circuit boards or connectors, reversed battery polarity, short circuits, solder bridges, excessive soldering heat, incorrect wiring, unsuitable batteries, failed installation, shell-cutting errors, unauthorised modification or damage caused during fitting or removal.

Damage caused by an unsuitable battery, charger, cable, power supply or adapter is not covered. This includes damage caused by excessive voltage or current, reversed polarity, incompatible charging behaviour, poor voltage regulation, damaged cables or incorrectly wired battery connectors.

Damage caused by puncturing, crushing, short-circuiting, overheating or otherwise mishandling a Li-ion battery is not covered.

Compatibility differences involving the original DMG display, displays requiring the -19V rail, untested custom motherboards or unsupported third-party accessories are not considered product faults.

Retrolize may request photographs, video, installation information or inspection of the supplied kit and associated console before approving a warranty claim.

Warranty claims remain subject to the full Retrolize warranty terms and are provided in addition to the customer’s statutory rights.

What Does The Giltesa PRO Kit Add To A Game Boy DMG?

Is A Li-Ion Battery Included?

No. A suitable Li-ion battery must be purchased separately. Check the battery specification, physical dimensions, connector and polarity before installation.

Can I Use The Original Game Boy DMG Screen?

No. The original screen requires a -19V supply rail that this board does not provide.

Can I Use The Kit With An IPS Screen?

Yes, provided the IPS screen operates from the 5V rail. Displays requiring the original -19V rail are not compatible.
