The Nintendo 64 Controller Silicone Button Contact Pad Kit provides replacement rubber membranes for worn or damaged button pads inside an original Nintendo NUS-005 controller. It is suitable for controller repair, refurbishment and restoration where the existing membranes have deteriorated through age or repeated use.

These internal pads sit between the plastic buttons and the controller’s circuit boards. Their moulded silicone domes provide resistance and help the buttons return after being pressed, while conductive contacts on the underside connect with the corresponding PCB contacts to register an input.

Ageing membranes can become soft, split or lose their spring resistance. Their conductive contacts can also deteriorate, leaving buttons feeling inconsistent or requiring more pressure to register. Replacing the affected pads can improve button feel and contact reliability where membrane wear is the cause of the problem.

The kit provides replacement membranes for the D-pad, A and B buttons, all four C buttons, the Start button, and the L, R and Z controls. The A, B and C contacts share one combined membrane, while the D-pad, Start button and three trigger controls use their own pads. The white silicone components fit internally beneath the controller’s existing plastic buttons.

Installation requires controller disassembly, but no soldering, rewiring or permanent alteration to the controller PCB is needed. Each replacement membrane fits in the corresponding original position, allowing the existing buttons, shell and circuit boards to be retained.

Button membrane replacement does not repair wear in the analogue-stick mechanism or change stick sensitivity. Button problems caused by dirt, damaged plastic parts or PCB faults may also require separate attention.

These are aftermarket replacement membranes. Their resistance and tactile feel may differ from original Nintendo pads, particularly when compared with heavily worn rubber that has softened over years of use.

Installation Instructions

1. Disconnect the controller from the console and remove any Controller Pak or Rumble Pak.
2. Carefully open the housing and access the button membranes using suitably sized Phillips screwdrivers. Keep the screws and small components organised.
3. Match each replacement membrane to its original position. Seat it correctly over the locating points, with its conductive contacts facing the matching PCB contacts.
4. Reassemble the controller, checking button alignment and cable routing before tightening the screws.
5. Reconnect the controller and test the buttons, D-pad and triggers. Check that each control moves freely and registers consistently.

This Nintendo 64 Controller Silicone Button Contact Pad Kit is covered by a 12-month limited Retrolize warranty against manufacturing defects and hardware faults arising during normal use.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage, torn or cut membranes, damage caused during installation, excessive stretching, incorrect fitting or contamination with unsuitable cleaning products.

Button faults caused by damaged controller PCBs, worn buttons, corrosion, contaminated PCB contacts, analogue-stick faults or other defective controller components are not considered faults with the replacement contact pads.

Fresh silicone membranes may feel firmer than heavily worn original Nintendo components. Differences in tactile feel compared with decades-old OEM membranes are not considered product faults.

Normal wear to silicone and conductive contact surfaces caused by extended use is not considered a manufacturing defect.

Which Nintendo 64 Controllers Does This Kit Fit?

The kit is designed for original Nintendo NUS-005 controllers. Compatibility with third-party controllers or modern N64-style wireless controllers has not been confirmed; sharing the same console connection does not establish internal membrane compatibility.

Will These Pads Fix Mushy Or Unresponsive Buttons?

They can help where worn silicone domes or deteriorated conductive contacts are causing poor button feel or inconsistent registration. Dirt, damaged plastic buttons and PCB faults can produce similar symptoms, so membrane replacement will not resolve every button problem.

Do I Need To Open The Controller Or Solder Anything?

The controller must be opened to access its internal membranes. No soldering is required. Use Phillips screwdrivers that fit the screw heads securely, and take care when handling the circuit boards, wiring and small button components.

Will This Kit Repair A Loose Analogue Stick?

No. The analogue stick uses a separate mechanism. Replacing button contact membranes does not repair stick wear, looseness or sensitivity problems.

Are Replacement Plastic Buttons Included?

No. This kit contains the silicone contact membranes fitted beneath the existing buttons. The controller’s plastic button caps, shell, circuit boards and analogue-stick assembly are retained.
