Description

Connect an original Super Nintendo, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64 or Nintendo GameCube to a modern HDMI television, monitor, projector or compatible capture device with the BitFunx 720p HDMI Adapter & Upscaler.

The adapter connects to the Nintendo Analogue AV Multi Out port and converts the console’s original S-Video or composite video and analogue stereo audio into a fixed 720p HDMI output. Picture and sound are carried through a single HDMI cable, with no separate audio lead, USB power cable or external power supply required.

Automatic signal detection allows the adapter to use S-Video when a compatible signal is available from the connected console. If the console, region or hardware revision does not provide S-Video, the adapter automatically falls back to composite video. This provides broad compatibility across supported PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J hardware while making the best use of the available original signal.

A physical selector switch provides 4:3 and 16:9 display modes. The 4:3 setting preserves the intended shape and proportions of most SNES, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64 and GameCube games. The optional 16:9 setting stretches the original picture horizontally to fill a widescreen display but does not add true widescreen rendering.

The fixed 720p output can improve compatibility with modern displays that no longer include composite or S-Video connections. The adapter cannot create additional graphical detail beyond the original source, and Nintendo 64 softness, interlaced GameCube artefacts and other characteristics of the original hardware can remain visible.

Both DOL-001 and DOL-101 GameCube consoles are supported through their standard Analogue AV Out connection. This adapter does not use the DOL-001 Digital AV Out port and does not provide direct digital or progressive-scan 480p output.

Finished in Silver, the full-size aluminium-alloy enclosure measures approximately 60 Ă— 42 Ă— 13mm and connects through an integrated 24cm console cable. A 1.5-metre HDMI cable is included, providing everything required to connect the adapter to a compatible HDMI display.

The adapter is dispatched from UK stock with fast delivery, international tracked delivery to supported destinations and a 12-month Retrolize warranty.

Critical Info

Fixed 720p Upscaler Rather Than A Line Doubler: This adapter converts the console’s original S-Video or composite signal into a fixed 720p HDMI output. It does not provide selectable 480p or 576p 2x line-doubled output.

Analogue Signal Conversion: The adapter uses S-Video or composite video from the Nintendo Analogue AV Multi Out connection. It does not process RGB, component YPbPr or direct digital video.

Automatic Signal Selection: S-Video is automatically used when the connected console, region and hardware revision provide a compatible S-Video signal. The adapter falls back to composite video when S-Video is unavailable.

Picture Quality Can Vary: Available signals differ between console models, regions and hardware revisions. The final picture can also be affected by the original game, console condition and processing performed by the connected display.

Upscaling Does Not Create Native HD Detail: The adapter converts and scales the original video signal for an HDMI display. It cannot add graphical detail that was not present in the original console or game.

Nintendo 64 Picture Characteristics Remain: The adapter does not remove the original Nintendo 64’s built-in anti-aliasing, softness, dithering or other console-level picture characteristics.

4:3 Is Recommended For Most Games: Most compatible games were designed around a 4:3 display. Selecting 16:9 stretches the image horizontally and does not add true widescreen rendering.

GameCube Uses Analogue AV: The adapter connects through the GameCube Analogue AV Out port. It supports DOL-001 and DOL-101 consoles because both revisions provide this connection.

No Direct Digital GameCube Output: The adapter does not use the Digital AV Out port found on DOL-001 consoles and is not a GCVideo or direct-digital GameCube HDMI adapter.

No GameCube Progressive Scan: Native GameCube progressive-scan 480p is not available through this adapter. A compatible DOL-001 Digital AV Out HDMI adapter is required for direct digital 480p output.

No Scanline Or Smoothing Controls: This model provides a 4:3 and 16:9 selector but does not include user-adjustable scanline, smoothing or CRT-filter controls.

HDMI Cable Included: A 1.5-metre standard HDMI cable is supplied.

Display Compatibility: The television, monitor, projector, HDMI switch or capture device must accept a 720p HDMI signal.

Nintendo Wii Not Supported: The Nintendo Wii uses a different AV connector and is not compatible with this adapter.

Connect With The Console Switched Off: Always switch the console off before inserting, removing or reseating the adapter.

First-Time Setup

  1. Switch the console and HDMI display off.
  2. Connect the BitFunx adapter to the console’s Nintendo Analogue AV Multi Out port.
  3. Select either 4:3 or 16:9 using the switch on the adapter. The 4:3 setting is recommended for most games.
  4. Connect the supplied HDMI cable between the adapter and the television, monitor, projector or capture device.
  5. Switch the display on and select the corresponding HDMI input.
  6. Switch the console on and confirm that the adapter’s power indicator illuminates.
  7. If no picture or sound appears, switch the console off before checking the adapter and HDMI connections.
  8. Always switch the console off before removing the adapter.

Warranty Information

This BitFunx 720p HDMI Adapter For SNES, Super Famicom, N64 & GameCube is covered by a 12-month limited Retrolize warranty against manufacturing defects and hardware faults arising during normal use.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage, misuse, damaged connectors, excessive strain placed on the adapter or console AV port, unauthorised modification or faults caused by an incompatible console, HDMI cable or display.

Display compatibility, television scaling, aspect-ratio behaviour and differences caused by S-Video or composite availability, console revision, region or original source quality are not considered product faults. Warranty claims remain subject to the full Retrolize warranty terms.

Additional Information

Which Consoles Does The Adapter Support?

It supports original PAL and NTSC Super Nintendo consoles, Japanese Super Famicom consoles, PAL and NTSC Nintendo 64 consoles and PAL and NTSC Nintendo GameCube consoles.

Is This An N64 HDMI Adapter, SNES HDMI Adapter And GameCube HDMI Adapter?

Yes. The shared Nintendo Analogue AV Multi Out connection allows the adapter to work with supported SNES, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64 and GameCube consoles.

Is This A Line Doubler?

No. This model converts the original S-Video or composite signal into a fixed 720p HDMI output. It does not provide selectable 480p or 576p 2x line-doubled output.

Does It Upscale To 1080p Or 4K?

No. The adapter outputs a fixed 720p HDMI signal. A 1080p or 4K television may scale that signal internally, but this does not create additional native detail.

How Does This Differ From The BitFunx Mini HDMI Adapter?

This full-size version has an aluminium-alloy enclosure, an integrated 24cm console cable, fixed 720p output and an included 1.5-metre HDMI cable.

The BitFunx Mini HDMI Adapter for SNES, N64 and GameCube connects directly to the console, has a smaller black enclosure, provides 1080p output in 4:3 mode and 720p output in 16:9 mode, and does not include an HDMI cable.

Does The Adapter Use S-Video?

Yes, when the connected console, region and hardware revision provide a compatible S-Video signal. The adapter automatically falls back to composite video when S-Video is unavailable.

Will It Improve The Picture Compared With Composite Video?

S-Video can provide cleaner separation of picture information than composite when the console supplies it. If only composite is available, the adapter converts and scales that original composite signal without creating additional source detail.

Will It Make Nintendo 64 Games Sharp?

It provides a convenient 720p HDMI connection and can use S-Video where available, but it cannot remove softness, anti-aliasing, dithering or other picture characteristics produced by the original Nintendo 64 hardware and software.

Does It Work With Both GameCube Revisions?

Yes. DOL-001 and DOL-101 GameCube consoles are supported because both models provide the required Analogue AV Out connection.

Does It Provide GameCube Progressive-Scan 480p?

No. The adapter uses the GameCube Analogue AV Out port and does not receive the direct digital progressive-scan signal available through the Digital AV Out port on compatible DOL-001 consoles.

Is This A GCVideo Adapter?

No. This is an analogue S-Video and composite-to-HDMI adapter and 720p upscaler. A GCVideo adapter connects to the Digital AV Out port found only on DOL-001 GameCube consoles.

Which Aspect Ratio Should I Use?

The 4:3 setting is recommended for most games because it preserves their intended proportions. The 16:9 setting fills a widescreen display by stretching the picture horizontally.

Does The 16:9 Setting Add True Widescreen Support?

No. It changes how the original picture is presented but cannot add widescreen rendering to software designed only for 4:3.

Does The Adapter Add Input Lag?

BitFunx rates the adapter as providing zero-latency processing. The connected television, monitor, HDMI switch or capture device can still introduce its own processing delay, so a display’s Game Mode is recommended where available.

Will It Work With A 4K Television?

Yes, provided the television accepts a 720p HDMI signal. The television will scale the 720p output to its panel resolution.

Can It Be Used With A Monitor Or Capture Device?

Yes, provided the monitor or capture device accepts 720p HDMI video and audio. Compatibility can vary between individual displays, switches and capture devices.

Is An HDMI Cable Included?

Yes. A 1.5-metre standard HDMI cable is supplied.

Does It Require External Power?

No. The adapter receives the power required for normal operation through the console connection.

Does It Work With A Nintendo Wii?

No. The Nintendo Wii uses a different AV connector and requires a Wii-compatible HDMI adapter.

Is A Direct Digital HDMI Adapter Available For GameCube DOL-001?

Yes. GameCube DOL-001 owners with a working Digital AV Out port can use the BitFunx GameCube Digital AV To HDMI Adapter for direct digital video and audio, native progressive-scan support from compatible games, line doubling, scanlines and on-screen settings.

Is International Delivery Available?

Yes. International tracked delivery is available to supported destinations, with available services calculated at checkout.
