Description

The BitFunx Mini HDMI Adapter connects an original Super Nintendo, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64 or Nintendo GameCube console to a modern HDMI television, monitor or projector.

Its compact direct-fit design connects to the console’s Nintendo Analogue AV Multi Out port, converting the original video and stereo audio into a convenient digital HDMI signal. The adapter is powered by the console, so no USB cable, external power supply or separate audio connection is required.

Automatic signal detection allows the adapter to prioritise S-Video when it is available from the connected console. If S-Video is unavailable, the adapter automatically falls back to the console’s composite video signal. This provides broad compatibility across supported PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J console models.

A physical selector switch provides a 4:3 mode with 1080p HDMI output and a 16:9 mode with 720p HDMI output. The 4:3 setting preserves the intended proportions of most SNES, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64 and GameCube games, while the 16:9 setting can be selected when a stretched widescreen presentation is preferred.

Both DOL-001 and DOL-101 GameCube consoles are supported through their standard Analogue AV Out connection. This adapter does not use the DOL-001 Digital AV Out port and should not be confused with a GCVideo adapter or direct digital GameCube HDMI solution.

Measuring approximately 43 Ă— 30 Ă— 13mm and weighing only 13.8g, the Mini adapter provides a compact plug-and-play alternative to a separate converter box. A standard HDMI cable is required and is not included.

The adapter is dispatched from UK stock with fast delivery, international tracked delivery to supported destinations and a 12-month Retrolize warranty.

Critical Info

HDMI Cable Required: A standard full-size HDMI cable is required and is not included.

Output Mode Is Linked To Aspect Ratio: The 4:3 setting produces a 1080p HDMI output, while the 16:9 setting produces a 720p HDMI output.

Upscaling Does Not Create Native HD Detail: The adapter converts and scales the console’s original analogue video signal for HDMI displays. It cannot add graphical detail that was not present in the original console or game.

4:3 Is Recommended For Most Games: Most SNES, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64 and GameCube software was designed around a 4:3 display. Selecting 16:9 stretches the picture unless the game itself provides suitable widescreen support.

Automatic Signal Selection: The adapter automatically prioritises S-Video when the connected console provides it and falls back to composite video when S-Video is unavailable. Picture quality can therefore vary between console models, regions and hardware revisions.

Analogue GameCube Connection: This adapter connects through the GameCube Analogue AV Out port. It supports both DOL-001 and DOL-101 consoles because both models provide this connection.

No Direct Digital GameCube Output: This is not a GCVideo adapter and does not connect to the DOL-001 Digital AV Out port. It does not provide the direct digital or progressive-scan 480p output available from compatible DOL-001 digital HDMI solutions.

No RGB Or Component Input: The adapter processes S-Video or composite video. It does not use RGB, component YPbPr or the GameCube Digital AV signal.

No Scanline Or Smoothing Controls: The current Mini model provides an aspect-ratio selector but does not include user-adjustable scanline, smoothing or CRT-filter modes.

Display Compatibility: The connected television, monitor, projector or capture device must support the adapter’s 720p or 1080p HDMI output.

Nintendo Wii Not Supported: The adapter is designed for the Nintendo AV Multi Out used by the SNES, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64 and GameCube. It does not fit the Nintendo Wii AV connection.

Connect With The Console Switched Off: Always switch the console off before inserting or removing the adapter.

First-Time Setup

  1. Switch the console and HDMI display off.
  2. Connect the BitFunx Mini HDMI Adapter to the console’s Analogue AV Multi Out port.
  3. Connect a standard HDMI cable between the adapter and the television, monitor, projector or capture device.
  4. Select either the 4:3 or 16:9 position using the switch on the side of the adapter.
  5. Switch the display on and select the corresponding HDMI input.
  6. Switch the console on.
  7. If no picture or sound appears, switch the console off before checking the adapter and HDMI connections.
  8. Always switch the console off before removing the adapter.

This BitFunx Mini HDMI Adapter For SNES, N64 & GameCube is covered by a 12-month limited Retrolize warranty against manufacturing defects and hardware faults arising during normal use.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage, misuse, damaged connectors, excessive strain placed on the adapter, unauthorised modification or faults caused by an incompatible console, HDMI cable or display.

Additional Information

Which Consoles Does The Adapter Support?

It supports original PAL and NTSC Super Nintendo consoles, Japanese Super Famicom consoles, PAL and NTSC Nintendo 64 consoles and PAL and NTSC Nintendo GameCube consoles.

Does It Work With Both GameCube Revisions?

Yes. GameCube DOL-001 and DOL-101 consoles are supported because the adapter connects through the standard Analogue AV Out port found on both revisions.

Does It Provide GameCube Progressive-Scan 480p?

No. The adapter converts the signal from the GameCube Analogue AV Out port. It does not use the DOL-001 Digital AV Out connection required for the console’s direct progressive-scan output.

Is This A GCVideo Adapter?

No. This is an analogue S-Video and composite-to-HDMI converter. A GCVideo adapter connects to the Digital AV Out port found only on DOL-001 GameCube consoles.

Does The Adapter Use S-Video?

Yes, when the connected console model and region provide a compatible S-Video signal. The adapter automatically prioritises S-Video and falls back to composite video when S-Video is unavailable.

Does It Support RGB Or Component Video?

No. The Mini adapter processes S-Video or composite video through the Nintendo Analogue AV Multi Out connection.

Is The 1080p Output Native High Definition?

No. The adapter scales the console’s original analogue signal into a 1080p HDMI output in 4:3 mode. It cannot create additional graphical detail beyond the original source.

Which Aspect Ratio Should I Use?

The 4:3 setting is recommended for most games because it preserves their intended proportions. The 16:9 setting fills a widescreen display but may stretch the picture.

Does The 16:9 Setting Add True Widescreen Support?

No. The adapter changes the presentation of the output signal. It cannot add widescreen rendering to a game that was designed only for 4:3.

Does It Require External Power?

No. The adapter receives the power it requires through the console connection.

Is An HDMI Cable Included?

No. A standard full-size HDMI cable is required and must be purchased separately if one is not already available.

Does It Include Scanline, Smoothing Or CRT-Filter Modes?

No. The current Mini adapter provides a 4:3 and 16:9 selector but does not include user-adjustable scanline, smoothing or CRT-filter controls.

Does It Work With A Nintendo Wii?

No. The Nintendo Wii uses a different AV connection and is not compatible with this adapter.

How Does This Differ From The Full-Size BitFunx HDMI Adapter?

The full-size BitFunx HDMI adapter for SNES, N64 and GameCube is an aluminium-cased alternative supplied with an HDMI cable. This Mini version has a smaller direct-fit design and requires a separate standard HDMI cable.

Is A Direct Digital HDMI Adapter Available For GameCube?

Yes. GameCube DOL-001 owners with a working Digital AV Out port can use the BitFunx GameCube Digital AV To HDMI Adapter. That adapter uses the console’s digital output, whereas this Mini adapter connects through the Analogue AV Out port and also supports DOL-101 consoles.

Is International Delivery Available?

Yes. International tracked delivery is available to supported destinations, with available services calculated at checkout.
