Description

Connect three generations of Sony PlayStation hardware to an EuroScart capable television or retro gaming video scaler with this Premium Fully Shielded On-Sync CVBS RGB SCART Cable.

The PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 use Sonyโ€™s AV Multi Out connection for analogue video and stereo audio. When configured for RGB output, the cable carries the red, green and blue picture channels separately rather than combining the entire image into a single composite-video signal.

This provides cleaner colour boundaries, sharper edges and reduced colour interference compared with a standard composite AV cable. The improvement is particularly noticeable around text, menus, character outlines and detailed 2D artwork.

Composite video is used as the synchronisation source, creating a widely supported RGBS signal for EuroSCART televisions and retro gaming processors. This configuration is known as sync-on-composite or CVBS sync and should not be confused with dedicated composite sync or CSYNC.

The cable uses 24 AWG stranded-copper conductors surrounded by aluminium foil and tin-plated copper-wire mesh shielding. This layered construction helps reduce electrical interference and crosstalk between the RGB, sync and audio signals.

A tension cord supports the internal conductors, while the PVC outer jacket and moulded connectors provide protection during normal use. An integrated ferrite core provides additional resistance to high-frequency interference.

Inside the SCART connector, an integrated PCB houses the required signal components and creates a secure connection between the Sony AV Multi Out plug and the EuroSCART connector.

Left-and-right analogue audio is carried through the same SCART connection, allowing RGB video and stereo sound to reach the connected television or processor through a single cable.

Connect the cable directly to a scart compatible television or pair it with the OSSC or GBSC Pro to convert the original analogue RGB signal for a modern HDMI display.

The cable is intended for standard-definition PlayStation video. Progressive-scan and HD output from compatible hardware requires a separate component or HDMI connection.

At approximately 1.3 metres long, the cable provides practical placement between the console and connected equipment without leaving excessive cable behind the television.

Set Component Video Out to RGB when using the cable. Standard-definition game modes including 240p, 288p, 480i and 576i are supported where produced by the software.

Progressive-scan RGB output changes to sync-on-green rather than CVBS sync and therefore requires different connection and processing equipment.

PlayStation 3

PlayStation 3 Fat โ€“ PAL, NTSC-U & NTSC-J: Supported through AV Multi Out.

PlayStation 3 Slim โ€“ PAL, NTSC-U & NTSC-J: Supported through AV Multi Out.

PlayStation 3 Super Slim โ€“ PAL, NTSC-U & NTSC-J: Supported through AV Multi Out.

Select AV MULTI / SCART in the consoleโ€™s Video Output Settings and configure a compatible standard-definition output mode.
