Premium Mega Drive 1 & Genesis 1 RGB SCART Cable – Fully Shielded CVBS Sync

This Sega Mega Drive 1 & Genesis 1 RGB SCART cable is designed for compatible original Model 1 consoles, providing clean analogue RGBS video through a fully shielded EuroSCART connection with CVBS Sync.

The Sega Mega Drive Model 1 and Genesis Model 1 provide native analogue RGB through the rear 8-pin DIN AV connection. This allows the cable to carry the red, green and blue picture channels separately rather than combining the entire image into a composite-video signal, providing sharper edges, cleaner colour separation and reduced colour interference on compatible RGB displays.

The cable uses CVBS Sync, also known as Sync-On-Composite, where composite video carries the synchronisation information required by the RGB signal. This provides a standard 15kHz RGBS connection suitable for compatible EuroSCART televisions, CRT displays and retro gaming video processors.

Fully shielded construction helps protect the RGB, sync and audio signals from electrical interference and crosstalk. The cable uses 24 AWG stranded-copper conductors, aluminium foil shielding and tin-plated copper-mesh shielding, together with an integrated ferrite core to help suppress high-frequency interference.

An internal PCB within the SCART connector houses the required video components and provides a secure connection between the console's 8-pin DIN AV output and the 21-pin EuroSCART plug.

Audio from the rear AV connection is mono on Mega Drive 1 and Genesis 1 consoles, and this mono signal is carried through the SCART connection. True stereo audio is available separately from the console's front headphone socket and is not routed through this cable.

The cable carries the console's original 15kHz RGB video output, supporting region and software-dependent 240p, 288p, 480i and 576i video modes.

It can be connected directly to a compatible RGB SCART television or CRT. For modern displays it can also be paired with the OSSC or GBSC Pro to convert the original analogue RGB signal for HDMI output.

At approximately 1.3 metres long, the cable provides practical positioning between the console and connected television, CRT or video processor without excessive cable length.

This cable is designed for standard Mega Drive 1 and Genesis 1 consoles that provide composite video through the rear AV connection. Certain French Mega Drive Model 1 consoles use a different video configuration and require a suitable alternative cable or modification.

Sega Mega Drive & Genesis

PAL Sega Mega Drive Model 1: Supported on standard models with the original 8-pin DIN AV connection and composite-video output.

French Mega Drive Model 1: French Mega Drive Model 1 consoles using the 1600-09 / 1601-09 video configuration are not supported in their original configuration. These systems do not provide the standard composite-video signal required by this cable for CVBS Sync. A suitable video modification or an alternative cable designed specifically for the French Mega Drive is required.

NTSC-U Sega Genesis Model 1: Supported through the original 8-pin DIN AV connection.

NTSC-J Sega Mega Drive Model 1: Supported through the original 8-pin DIN AV connection.

The cable carries the original 15kHz RGB video signal generated by the console. Output resolution and refresh rate depend on the console region, installed modification and software being used.

This Premium Sega Mega Drive 1 and Genesis 1 RGB SCART Cable is covered by a 12-month limited Retrolize warranty against manufacturing defects and hardware faults arising during normal use.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage, crushed or cut cabling, bent connector pins, excessive pulling, damaged strain relief, unauthorised modification or faults caused by incompatible equipment.

Display incompatibility, incorrect video-processor settings, JP21 equipment, composite-only SCART inputs, mono audio from the console’s rear AV output or devices that do not accept 15kHz RGBS are not considered product faults.

Warranty claims remain subject to the full Retrolize warranty terms.
